Biester Palace first opened to the public in April 2022, the palace beckons exploration, inviting visitors to marvel at its eccentric décor and architectural splendour.

Designed by renowned architect José Luís Monteiro, Biester Palace is essentially a revivalist building composing a blend of architectural styles, including neo-Gothic with Romantic influences. The house is considered “one of [Monteiro's] most representative works” by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage.


THE INTERIOR

For a truly immersive experience, guests can explore the palace's interior that spans two floors which include the living room, dining room, billiard room, library, and exquisite chapel. Highlights include the grand staircase, elaborate ceilings, and the iconic wooden elevator crafted by Raúl Mesnier de Ponsard, the creator of the Santa Justa Elevator in Lisbon. The interior boasts intricate frescoes, stuccoes, and paintings by notable artists like Luigi Manini and Leandro de Souza Braga.

HOW TO GET TO THE BIESTER PALACE

The Palace is on the main road leading to Quinta da Regaleira, 15 minutes walk from Sintra old town centre. There are two entrances to the property, one on 1A Av. Almeida Garrett 1A, and one at 16 Estrada da Pena, which is only open in high-season (April to October).

Take the IC19 from Lisbon, IC30 from Mafra or EN9 turning off the A5 motorway to Cascais. Once you have arrived in the town's historic centre, you'll see signs showing the way to the Biester Palace.

The Scotturb bus #434 leaves from Sintra Train station or outside the Tourist Information office in the centre of old town Sintra and stops at 16 Estrada da Pena. This entrance is only open in high-season.
